THE FUSS ABOUT ESSENTIAL OILS

THE FUSS ABOUT ESSENTIAL OILS

For centuries essential oils have been used in holistic eastern medicine mainly for their rich and powerful properties.

Essential oils are concentrated ‘fat-free’ essence of different plants. The oils can be extracted or distilled from the plants. In the past they have been used mainly for aromatherapy as their rich scents can diffuse any room.

Recently more and more people have begun using them for their skin and hair. When it comes to hair care my collection of essential oils is really thin. I have three to be exact, peppermint, rosemary and tea tree essential oils. In basic terms these oils are the essence of the peppermint, rosemary and tea tree plants.

PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL

  • Aids in scalp health, dryness and itchiness
  • Promotes hair growth
  • Antiseptic
  • Antimicrobial
  • Promotes health shine

ROSEMARY ESSENTIAL OIL

  • Promotes hair growth
  • Strengthens circulation
  • Prevents dandruff
  • Aids in scalp health, dryness and itchiness
  • Increases hair volume
  • Conditions and softens

TEA TREE ESSENTIAL OIL

  • Unclogs hair follicles
  • Nourishes roots
  • Promotes hair growth
  • Fights dandruff and itchiness
  • Promotes scalp health

When applying essential oil careful to not apply it directly on to the skin as the concentration of the oil requires it be diluted by a carrier oil such as olive oil, coconut oil or castor oil. I have included my essential oils in my DIY shampoo, spritzer and hair growth oil mix. I never use them alone. And if you are allergy prone test the oil out on a small surface of skin before fully using it to determine if you will react to it or not.

The reason these were the first oils I got was because of the state of my hair, which has been beckoning for hydration and attention for a while now, as well as their properties in treating the scalp. I believe a healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair. A lot goes into ensuring the health of your hair, from the food we eat, hydration, and hair care. However the base from where the hair grows I believe has one of the biggest impacts on how well your hair grows.

I’m looking into increasing my collection. Yes essential oils do not come cheaply, but one literally uses a few drops at a time, so they last a long time, you eventually get your money’s worth.

Essential oils are packed with nature’s goodness and are extracts of the best of what the plants have to offer. The nutrients and power packed in a few drops are potent and unimaginable for a healthy hair journey. They are definitely worth the fuss. They pack a lot of punch and give you bang for your buck. The healing properties in these oils alone are enough to include them in any healthy hair regimen of your liking. You can add them to products you already have or make your own DIY products like I did. Here’s how I made my hair spritzer using rosemary and peppermint essential oils.
