MY PROTECTIVE STYLE CHALLENGE

MY PROTECTIVE STYLE CHALLENGE

I would have loved to do this with you guys, this thing of arriving late is not actually a thing anymore, I’m completely over it!

So I decided, in December, to have a 6 month protective style challenge. My afro was at that weird stage after cutting all my hair off on the 8th of March 2019. So from December to May 2020 I decided to keep my hair under lock and key.

These have been the looks so far, I had them all done at Candi & Co Randburg:

This was my December look, I absolutely loved not worrying about my hair over the holidays.

The reason behind this is obviously to grow my hair faster and to retain length. I will be the first to admit how lazy protective styling makes me, so I really have not been hydrating as much as I had envisioned I would, and if you are protective styling this is VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT. I cannot stress this enough, keep your hair hydrated.

In January I went for a plain straight back. This may end up being my go to look, loved how it turned out.

Since the third month however, I have included hydration in my weekly routine together with a hairline treatment (because let’s be honest, the risk is high for a njibaba with excessive protective styling) from  Mizani.

I decided to keep these Marley dreads for two months, so I rocked these throughout Feb and March – OBVIOUSLY WASHING THEM REGULARLY.

I will check back in with you on the results after 6 months.

Let me know what tricks and tips you have for growing your hair.

xoxo
